If you follow this blog, you know that I am a mother of three children. My husband and I are very happy to be raising our crew in the Beautiful by Nature Turks and Caicos Islands. We have great weather year round, and we are surrounded by the most beautiful beaches in the world. So naturally, one of our favorite family activities is going to the beach. The water, the breeze, the sandcastles...magnificent. Except, we have one that loves deep water, one who only wants to build sand castles and not go too close to the water, and another one who seems to be on a mission to see how much sand he can eat before he is caught!

I say this to say, that we often have to get creative with our family activities to ensure that we are playing enough with our children, especially outdoors. Children love to play. Whether it's beach play or imaginative play in the house. Play is the work of childhood and a great amount of learning and happiness happens through play.

It is no secret that it is a challenge to find affordable family activities for families that reside in the Turks and Caicos Islands, and so we are going to start a new weekly feature at Learn and Lead. Each week we will post a 'Family Play Activity' to inspire you to add to your bank of family play activities.

This week: Have a Bubble Party

Materials: bubble solution, cups, straws/pipe cleaners.

Have a bubble party with your children! You can make bubble solution with water, liquid dish detergent, and a couple tea spoons of sugar. A quick internet search can give you more specific recipe if you would like. Provide them with straws or pipe cleaners that can be made into different shapes to create their own bubble wands. If you are making the solution with your children and do add sugar, make sure to remind them not to eat the solution. It is still soap!

Have a great bubble party!
