Tutoring Services

Picture

Each child is different. They each have specific needs that they need addressed. The cookie cutter method of teaching no longer works for all students. Children excel when they are taught in a way that works for them. They also need to be taught how to excel even when they are being taught in a learning style that is not their strongest. For this reason, L&L focuses on individualizing each child's education plan in order to help them reach their full potential. When a parent contacts L & L for support, they are asked to come in with their child for a free consultation. Each parent fills out an age appropriate questionnaire, which helps us to learn more about their child's developmental, academic, behavioral, social and emotional needs. While the parent(s) are completing this questionnaire, their child is given a brief academic assessment in order for us to get to know their academic needs. Parents are also reminded that L & L is a confidential environment, and are encouraged to share any additional information that will help us meet the needs of their child.

How does the program work?

Once your child has been assessed and their needs have been identified, we will set up regular tutoring session for your child. During the academic year, most children visit the center twice a week; however, depending on their needs the number of sessions may be increased on decreased.

All children receive supplies when they begin at L & L. All resources, including a Learn and Lead bag are included in their monthly fees. Some students may receive phonics or mathematics workbooks depending on their needs. In general, we work with your child from where they are academically taking them to where they need to be. However, in some cases parents request that we help the children with their homework. This is something that will be discussed on an individual basis. The main reason for this is that if your child is having serious difficulties, there are probably gaps in their learning that need to be addressed before working on grade level work. Therefore, it is important that parents know, they will still need to work at home with their child on both work from L & L and their everyday school work. Each child is given homework at the end of their L & L session to be done for the following session. This work reinforces the skills taught. Parents are encouraged to keep abreast of their child's work and progress. If you are working at home with your child as well, progress will be much faster and will remain consistent.

We have tutors that work with pre-school, primary, secondary, and college level students. Pre-school programs are focused on motor development, basic literacy and numeracy skills. Primary and secondary school tutors primarily tutor reading, writing, spelling and mathematics. College level tutoring is available in English, primary education, mathematics (including statistics), and the sciences. Our tutors are very flexible and try to help in any way they can. If there is a specific area that you or your child needs assistance in, do not hesitate to call and set up an appointment to see if our staff can help you address your needs.

Student and Parent Responsibilities

At L & L we ensure to the best of our ability that you get your money's worth and more. Therefore, it is important to be punctual. Sessions are scheduled in advance and tutors are ready for students when they arrive. Your tutor plans their session prior to your child's arrival. It is important to arrive and to pick up your child on-time. This not only teaches your child the importance of punctuality, but also maximizes their learning time. Cancellations must occur 24hrs prior to the cancelled class in order to avoid payment for the class.

Payments are discussed after your initial free consultation. Rates depend on your child's needs and the number of sessions that they do per week. At the end of each month, you will receive an invoice for the following month. The invoice must be paid in full by the first class of each month. Parents are encouraged to keep this in mind when they are doing their monthly budgeting.
