This week we switched up the pace a little bit with group 1 and explored study skills. As all youth in the group are either in High School or College, it is important that they know their learning styles and how they study best. By taking the time to find out how they study best, and learning and reviewing some effective study skill strategies, we hope that it will help the group of youth stay on the right track and also improve their academic performance.

On Saturday March 24th, a second group of young leaders began Bringing Out the Leader from Within. We are so excited to have another group of dynamic young people to go on this journey with. They are motivated and ready to improve their leadership skills in order to develop personally and in their communities.

In yesterday's session, an Introduction to Leadership Education, we introduced the program to the participants and gave them an opportunity to get to know each other as a group. In addition to learning the basics of leadership, participants also learned about goal setting and were left with the task of setting a personal goal for themselves that addresses what they would like to get out of their 8 week journey with us.

On Friday March 16th we conducted a workshop on Personality & Self Esteem for the 2012 TCI Top Model Contest contestants. I had a great time and thoroughly enjoyed working with the contestants. I look forward to following their journey and seeing them strut their stuff in the May competition. Keep up the great work!

Today group 1 of Bringing Out the Leader from Within explored the topic of communication. They explored one way and two way communication, learned about non verbal communication, good speking habits, and participated in a variety of learning activities to reinforce the importance of effective communication.

Next week we look forward to starting the program with group 2. Group 2 will take place in the Education Department Conference Room from 12:00- 2:00pm.

Group 2 will explore the topic of Study Skills next week.

We had a great Team Building Session yesterday! Our young leaders came out ready to play, learn and lead!  They took part in a learning games, challenges, a reflection activity and even did a little role playing! We definitely have some budding actors and actresses among the group!

There will be no session on March 10th, as we have a previous commitment to faciliate a workshop on Personality & Self Esteem for the TCI Top Model contestants.

We will resume on March 17th to explore the topic of Communication.

Keep up the great work leaders!

I'd like to take the time to thank Mrs. Malcolm and the Primary Education Students at the Turks and Caicos Community College in Provo. They invited me to do a guest lecture on Children's Literature in the Primary Education Classroom. We had a great time. We discussed the power of children's literature, how to use it as a teaching tool, how to use children's literature to address difficult topics, how to use children's literature across the curriculum and a number of other topics. I was impressed by the enthusiams of the students and touched by their warmth...and of course the beautiful potluck that they put together! I hope to work with you again and look forward to working with you as collegues in the future!

This past Friday I made the trip to Providenciales to facilitate a workshop at the Cheshire Hall Medical Center. We had a fantastic group of participants that were fun to work with and were up for lively results based discussions. Unfortunetly, I have no pictures to share this time. Although I had my camera, I was so wrapped up in the workshop that I forgot to take it out and snap a few shots while the participants were working on their activities.

Thanks again for the invitation InterHealth Canada! We look forward to future workshops!
