Congratulations to the second group of young leaders in Grand Turk to complete Bringing Out the Leader from Within. It has been a pleasure to work with you over the last 8 weeks and we look forward to seeing how you apply your skills to both your personal and community lives.

We would like to thank the National AIDS program for  sponsoring this group of leaders and hope that we have given them the tools they need in order to be able to better serve the school community in their roles as Peer Educators.

We look forward to our continued partnership with the National AIDS program. Next stop: South Caicos! Stay tuned!

It always pleases us to hear that people are using the L & L website as a resource. Last week I received an email from a group of students suggesting links to articles that those who view this website may be interested in. The group of 10 - 13 year olds participating in an after school program, have been using our 'links' page for a an after school project on Learning, Relating, and Accepting.  I have reviewed the links and thought they were worthwhile to share.  Thank you to Mrs. Finley's Group!

We had a great session on Time & Stress Managment today. Despite a last minute change of venue, the young leaders were at the top of their game and participated to the max. They learned important time managment skills that can help them today and in the future. We also discussed stress managment, did some relaxation activities, and explaned the connection between stress management and effective conflict resolution.

Next week we will be having two sessions: Creativity & Inspiration and the Closing Session. Students will also be receiving their certificates for the program.

I would like to thank the H. J. Robinson High School for inviting me to be the keynote speaker at their career day for their 3rd form students. My hope is that the students will be able to draw the two main messages from my address and apply it to this critical time in their lives as they choose the subjects to focus on for the remainder of their high school years as well as begin thinking about their career paths. The two main messages were:
1. Find your passion, and choose a career where you can channel it.
2. Always be at the top of your game no matter what path you choose to follow.

On April 21st, the first group of young leaders completed their 8 week trainging program. We are extremely proud of them and how far they have come individually and as a group. We expect to see great things from this group and look forward to working with them again in the future.

We would like to thank the National AIDS Program for choosing us to facilitate the leadership training for their Peer Educators. We look forward to working with other groups of Peer Educators around the country.
Group 2 is continuing the program strong. They compeleted Conflict & Issue Resolution this week. They learned about how to identify problems that often cause conflict as well as healthy and un-healthy responses to conflict.

Next week we will explore Time & Stress Management with Group 2. Almost there...keep up the great work!

Group 2 - Study Skills

How time flies! Group 2 took part in session 4 yesterday -Study Skills. This puts them half way through the program! We spent some time discussing effective study skills as well as each student had the opportunity to find out what their dominant learning style is and how to make it work for them.

They also participated in a few fun learning activities and team building games. Keep up the great work! See you next week!

Group 1: Creativity & Inspiration

Group 1 is almost finished. Yesterday they took part in session 7 - Creativity & Inspiration. Students spent some time doing some creative problem solving as well as building structures. In addition they begun the process of writting their personal mission statement which is one of the culminating activities in this program.

Although we look forward to next week, we are saddened that it is going to be the last week with this group. They have participated well, worked hard, and we have had a great time with them.

We are looking forward to seeing great things from this group of motivated youth!

We had a great time on Saturday with both groups of Bringing Out the Leader from Within. The 12pm group explored Effective Communication and the 3pm group explored Time & Stress Management. Despite it being Easter weekend, we had very few students missing and were very happy about this. Here are a few pictures from both groups. Also, be sure to either check out our Youth Leadership page or our go directly to YouTube to check out our new promo video for the program. .

Group 2 - Team Building

On Saturday Group 2 continued getting to know each other and to learn more essential leadership skills. We explored Team Building where group members were reminded that we can accomplish more together than individually. We look forward to exploring Effective Communication next week.

Group 1 - Conflict & Issue Resolution

Group 1 had an exciting session on Saturday. Conflict is a hot topic no matter what age you are and it was clear to see that the teens benefited from discussing effective ways in dealing with conflict in order to get conflicts resolved. In addition to exploring healthly and unhealthy ways of dealing with conflict, students also completed Conflict Inventories that helped them to explore their conflict management styles. We look forward to exploring Time & Stress Management next week.
